Science Stunner: Observations Support Predictions Of Extreme Warming And Worse Droughts This Century
Door Joe romm, 9 november 2012

'Future warming likely to be on high side of climate projections', concluded a new analysis by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). And that 'higher temperature rise would produce greater impacts on society in terms of sea level rise, heat waves, droughts, and other threats'.

IEA Report: Fossil Fuel Boom Is A Climate Disaster In The Making
Door Lorne Stockman, Oil Change International / Climate Progress, 13 november 2012

The International Energy Agency released [in its new] World Energy Outlook: 'No more than one-third of proven reserves of fossil fuels can be consumed prior to 2050 if the world is to achieve the 2 °C goal', the internationally recognized limit to average global warming in order to prevent catastrophic climate change.
[Alleen al] [...] the Canadian tar sands industry has enough projects producing, under construction and approved to blow well past the climate limits prescribed by the IEA.

Can We Pull the Planet from the Brink of Catastrophe?

It can only happen if engaged citizenry create a widespread but thoroughly interconnected movement.

Campagne Do The Math van 350.org
It's simple math: we can burn 565 more gigatons of carbon dioxide and stay below 2°C of warming - anything more than that risks catastrophe for life on earth. The only problem? Fossil fuel corporations now have 2,795 gigatons in their reserves, five times the safe amount. And they’re planning to burn it all -  unless we rise up to stop them

Greenhouse Gas Concentrations Reach New Record
World Meteorological Organization, 20 november 2012

The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reached a new record high in 2011, according to the World Meteorological Organization. Between 1990 and 2011 there was a 30% increase in radiative forcing – the warming effect on our climate – because of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping long-lived gases.

[...] According to WMO’s bulletin, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere reached 390.9 parts per million [ppm] in 2011, or 140% of the pre-industrial level of 280 parts per million.

[...] Atmospheric methane reached a new high of about 1813 parts per billion (ppb) in 2011, or 259% of the pre-industrial level, due to increased emissions from anthropogenic sources. Since 2007, atmospheric methane has been increasing again after a period of levelling-off with a nearly constant rate during the last 3 years.

Catastrophic sea levels 'distinct possibility' this century: study
